The season 2 trailers for House of the Dragon have revealed a new dragon, which makes up for a deleted scene from season 1. The show's first season introduced audiences to several dragons, from Rhaenyra's Syrax to Daemon's unique Caraxes to the massive she-dragon Vhagar. Compared to the original series Game of Thrones, HBO's prequel takes place during an era of Westeros when dragonriders reigned supreme, and nearly every character with Targaryen blood has a dragon bonded to them. However, dragons are an expensive addition to the show's budget, and many didn't make the cut in season 1.
House of the Dragon returns on Max and HBO on June 16, 2024.

Moondancer isn't the most powerful dragon in House of the Dragon, but season 2 has shown that she'll be getting plenty of action, along with her rider, Baela Targaryen. Moondancer was actually intended to appear in a season 1 deleted scene, but it was cut. A companion book titled The Making of HBO's House of the Dragon revealed the original visual plan for Moondancer, describing the dragon as "the rock star of the bunch" with a "vibrant green color palette with an intricate pattern design on her skin."
Aside from Moondancer, other new dragons should appear in season 2. Aegon II's dragon, Sunfyre, was never seen as an adult in season 1 but will play a significant role in season 2, and the beautiful golden creature is also seen briefly in the trailers. The season 2 trailer also shows a glimpse of Hugh Hammer, a dragonseed (Targaryen bastard) who will fight for Rhaenyra as a dragonrider, bonding with one of the unclaimed dragons on Dragonstone.

Moondancer & Baela's Role In House Of The Dragon Season 2
House of the Dragon season 1 made several book changes, and season 2 will continue that trend with Baela and Moondancer's roles going forward. Baela Targaryen is the daughter of Daemon Targaryen and his second wife, Laena Velaryon. In Fire & Blood, Moondancer is quite young, and there's some time before Baela rides her in battle for the first time. In House of the Dragon, it looks like they'll be jumping into the action immediately, making an impact for their side.
House of the Dragon
Taking place about 172 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the tale of the rise of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. The popular HBO spinoff show first starred Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower before they were replaced by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, who play the older versions of the characters. Also starring in the series is Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen) and Paddy Considine as Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys Targaryen.
